TVS Motor Company has unveiled the Jupiter CNG at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, claiming it as the world’s first factory-fitted CNG scooter. Currently a concept vehicle, this innovative two-wheeler could revolutionize urban commuting by offering dual-fuel flexibility at unprecedented running costs.
Smart Dual-Fuel Solution
The Jupiter CNG tackles range anxiety with its clever bi-fuel system. A 1.4 kg CNG tank sits under the seat while a 2-liter petrol tank occupies the floorboard, allowing seamless fuel switching. This setup delivers a combined range of 226 km with remarkable economy – TVS claims 84 km per kg of CNG, translating to running costs under ₹1 per kilometer.
For daily commuters covering 40 km, this could mean monthly savings exceeding ₹1,200 compared to petrol-only scooters.
Performance and Features
The 124.8cc single-cylinder engine produces 7.2 PS and 9.4 Nm of torque, achieving a top speed of 80 km/h. While slightly less powerful than the regular Jupiter 125, it retains the smooth CVT automatic transmission and includes TVS’ intelliGO start-stop technology for enhanced efficiency.
Standard features include LED headlamp, semi-digital instrument cluster, side stand indicator, and USB charging port. The trade-off? The CNG tank replaces the under-seat storage, though TVS has integrated it neatly with a pressure gauge and convenient filler nozzle.
Environmental Impact
CNG’s cleaner combustion delivers significant environmental benefits – 20-25% lower CO₂ emissions, 50% less particulate matter, and substantial reductions in carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions. This positions the Jupiter CNG as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional petrol scooters.
Market Advantage and Pricing
With no direct CNG scooter competitors in India (Bajaj’s Freedom 125 CNG is a motorcycle), TVS enjoys first-mover advantage. Expected pricing between ₹95,000-₹1,00,000 (ex-showroom) targets urban commuters seeking cost-effective, sustainable transportation.
What’s Next?

The Jupiter CNG remains a concept with no confirmed launch date, though industry watchers expect a potential market debut later in 2025. If TVS proceeds with production, this innovative scooter could create an entirely new segment in India’s two-wheeler market.
The concept addresses two critical urban mobility challenges – rising fuel costs and environmental concerns – through practical engineering. For millions of Indian commuters juggling tight budgets with daily transportation needs, the Jupiter CNG represents a compelling solution that doesn’t compromise on convenience or performance.
This innovative approach could set the template for future alternative fuel two-wheelers, positioning TVS as a pioneer in sustainable urban mobility solutions.
